This small fishing pond is perfect for the kids and anglers with disabilities - plus it's located right next door to the resort! The pond is regularly stocked with trout from Wizard Falls Hatchery, providing an easier fishing opportunity in an area with no other stocked ponds. Kids age 17 and under and anglers with a disabilities license will be able to fish at Metolius Pond. Fishing is free for kids age 11 and under while older kids need the $10 Youth License.
See where the Metolius River springs to life, flowing ice cold and powerfully out of a hillside. Located only a couple miles from Cold Springs, the trail to see the origin of this majestic river is 0.5 miles, round-trip, with ample parking and bathrooms. Wizard Falls Hatchery offers a park-like setting where you can view the breathtaking turquoise falls, birds of prey, fish, freshwater mammals, hoofed mammals, wading birds. Display ponds showcase the various species of fish being hatched and reared at the hatchery, as well as interpretive signage and a platform for viewing fish in the settling pond is also available. The canyon in which Lake Billy Chinook lies was carved by the three rivers that flow into the lake; the Crooked, Deschutes, and Metolius rivers. The Cove Palisades State Park, situated among towering cliffs that surround this vastly scenic lake, is an ideal recreational destination for the entire family.
